Microsoft has introduced a completely free video creation tool called Bing Video Creator, designed to generate five-second clips using only text prompts. Powered by OpenAI’s Sora model, this new feature allows users to create videos without cameras, editing tools, or any technical experience. Available through the Bing mobile app, it’s another step in Microsoft’s strategy to make AI tools widely accessible and engaging.
How Bing Video Creator works
Using the tool is simple: just download the Bing app, tap the bottom-right menu, and select “Video Creator”. Alternatively, you can type a prompt—like “a dog driving a race car”—into the Bing search bar. In seconds, you’ll receive a short, vertical-format video optimized for social media platforms like TikTok.
Each user gets ten fast generations for free, and additional videos can be generated by redeeming Microsoft Rewards points. You can also queue up to three prompts at a time and receive a notification when each clip is ready. All videos are saved for 90 days, giving users time to download or share their creations without rush.
A push in the AI race
This launch highlights Microsoft’s push to lead in AI innovation by offering fun, no-cost tools to attract a wide audience. After rolling out free image generation, Bing now enters the video space, providing creative freedom with minimal effort. While the clips are limited to five seconds, widescreen support is expected soon.
To maintain safety, the tool includes safeguards to block harmful content and embeds invisible metadata identifying each video as AI-generated. Still, some inappropriate results may occasionally slip through.
