The video game developer CD Projekt Red announced last night that a live-action project set in the universe of the popular science fiction video game Cyberpunk 2077 is in the works.
Few details have been revealed about the project (we don’t even know if we are talking about a movie or a series), but we can say that it will be produced with Anonymous Content, the company behind series like True Detective and Mr. Robot, as well as movies like The Revenant and Spotlight.
CD Projekt Red, the developer of Cyberpunk 2077 and the popular video game series Witcher, is collaborating on the Cyberpunk 2077 project with Garret Kemble, the head of television at Anonymous Content Studios, development director Ryan Schwartz, and creative director David Levine.
The team has started searching for a writer for the new story
Garrett Kemble, David Levine, Ryan Schwartz, and Bard Dorros will produce on behalf of Anonymous Content alongside Charlie Scully. AC Studios, from Anonymous Content, will be the studio in charge of the project, which will be developed in close collaboration with the creative team of Cyberpunk 2077.
To date, 25 million copies of Cyberpunk 2077 have been sold. The game has been praised for its vast open world, action-packed gameplay, and complex story that changes based on players’ decisions, such as whether they want to complete missions by shooting, using stealth, or hacking. Well, we say praised now because when it was released, it was one of the most disastrous launches in the industry in decades.
Absolutely staggering sales
The game is set in Night City, a futuristic technological hub ruled by megacorporations and gangs powered by robots. By the way, here are the game’s sales over two years and the DLC that has only been on the market for a week.
Cyberpunk 2077 also features Hollywood stars like Keanu Reeves, who plays a main character named Johnny Silverhand.
And an expansion titled Phantom Liberty, starring Idris Elba, was released last week and has already sold 3 million copies.
Netflix also premiered an anime series based on the game, titled Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. CD Projekt Red’s other popular video game series, The Witcher, already has a hit series on Netflix, which has been renewed for a fourth season.
