Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has already been confirmed as Marvel Studios’ new big hit. The James Gunn-directed film has garnered rave reviews, with many saying it is the best UCM film since Avengers: Endgame. In addition, its numbers look set to be very high in the first weekend, making it clear that these eighties-spirited heroes still have a lot to say.
The new film from the DC Studios co-director also adds a very interesting character that many Marvel fans have been waiting for: Adam Warlock. The all-powerful hero played by Will Poulter has a big role in the film, and while I won’t spoil spoilers, it’s clear that his weight in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be quite big.
However, what will happen to Adam Warlock after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, is there a plan for him, will he reappear alongside the Guardians or as a standalone? In an interview for Screen Rant, the actor has spoken about the future of his character.
The uncertain future of Adam Warlock
“I don’t know where it’s going. If I knew I would tell you, I promise. But I have no idea,” was Poulter’s response to a question from reporters. “I’m very honoured that he’s a beloved character and that the fans are excited to see him. I just wanted to try to do justice to what James [Gunn] wrote. I was really excited to try to live up to it and I’d love to explore his evolution, but I don’t know exactly how we’ll see it.“
Given Disney’s plans for Marvel’s future, the character could appear in either Avengers: Dynasty of Kang – most likely without Jonathan Majors – or even Secret Wars. At the moment, beyond The Marvels it doesn’t look like there will be many more space plans for the UCM, so it’s unclear when he’ll appear again.
As for Guardians of the Galaxy, the future is similar. James Gunn is retiring from Marvel after completing the trilogy, so it remains to be seen whether Kevin Feige puts an end to the saga or, as could also be possible, puts the group in the hands of another director.
