Garfield is one of the most well-known characters in pop culture, yet it had been a while since he was fully utilized in movies or series. After the live-action films in the early 2000s, the character had been somewhat neglected, but now he’s making a big comeback thanks to a Sony Pictures Animation animated film.

“Garfield: The Movie” will arrive on May 24, 2024, telling the origin story of Garfield alongside a grand adventure that takes him far from his usual home. We’ve already seen the trailer, and it seems to be a family-friendly movie with considerable potential at the box office.

Chris Pratt strikes again

One of the most notable aspects of Garfield, as seen across various social media platforms, is that the original dubbing for the character is done by Chris Pratt. The star of “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Jurassic World” lends his voice to the lasagna-loving cat, just as he did with Super Mario in the film of the same name. However, this hasn’t sat well with all audiences, some of whom seem a bit tired of seeing (or rather, hearing) Pratt everywhere.

Despite this, the movie appears to have the support of the audience. The character is well-known and beloved by younger audiences, so everything seems to be sailing smoothly. The synopsis of the film directed by Mark Dindal goes like this:

“The world-famous Garfield, the homebody cat who hates Mondays and loves lasagna, is about to have an adventure in the wild outside world! After an unexpected reunion with his long-lost father – the scruffy street cat Vic – Garfield and his canine friend Odie are forced to leave their perfect, pampered lives to join Vic in a hilarious and very risky heist.”
