Android TV is preparing to follow the same path as other Google ecosystems for Google Play Movies. In this way, Google TV is coming to establish itself as an application that unifies all existing Google audiovisual services and adds new ones. That’s why Google Play Movies will disappear in October.
Google Play Movies, like Play Music, was born more than a decade ago, and it came to establish a digital content purchase service for audiovisual content. And Google is not only working on updating the Android logo. It has been functioning with varying degrees of success until a few months ago when it was unified with Play Music, Chromecast, and new features in the current Google TV.
Google TV to television
Google TV began by establishing itself on our mobile phones as a user-friendly space where, in addition to consuming content we’ve purchased with Google or content we cast to the TV, it also easily integrates with content platforms like Disney+, Netflix, HBO Max, or Prime Video, among many others, to provide tailored recommendations based on our viewing habits.
In this way, Google TV will offer these functionalities through Android TV televisions, which will feature a very useful interface for when we want to search for potential content to watch without needing to navigate through each content platform. In today’s times, a service that consolidates the content from the multiple platforms to which we are subscribed can save us a lot of time.
Competition to Amazon Fire TV
It’s also worth noting that those without Android TV can currently purchase the new Chromecast model with Google TV, which competes directly with Amazon’s Fire Stick. Amazon Fire TV is a well-established system on many televisions, either integrated natively or connected via USB.
Competition in these segments is always good news, as it can drive improvements in the services and functionalities of both Amazon Fire and Google TV. While Google TV is relatively new to the market, it remains to be seen if it can challenge Amazon’s dominance in this field.
