Google is preparing a new redesign based on Material Design for Gmail. This design approach, Google’s favorite in recent years to create attractive and user-friendly designs, functional and minimalist, is once again the protagonist in Gmail due to the new interface it will have on the messaging service login page.

It is common for Google to carry out this type of redesign. In fact, in the last ten years they have done it so many times that it would be difficult to recognize the interface of a service like Gmail over time. It can be annoying for users accustomed to what was already there, but the implemented novelties usually come with long-term benefits for users.

New design for Gmail login

As BleepingComputer has revealed, the Gmail login page is undergoing a makeover to give the interface a more modern look and align it with current design standards. Additionally, as Google is doing with many of its products and services, this redesign will once again be based on Material Design.

At the moment, when logging in, the only thing you can see is a top banner announcing that Google is preparing a new “look” for that page. There are no further details, so we will have to wait for Google to display the new design in order to see more specifically the changes that have been made.

Saving resources in Gmail

Google has wanted to give more prominence to Gmail in its roadmap in recent months. Renewing certain menus in its design is a clear example of this, but there have been many more recent changes within this service. For example, Google is also working to make Gmail more efficient at limiting spam.

On the other hand, Google is also working on reducing the resources and energy consumption that a service like Gmail entails, used by hundreds of millions of users every day. That’s why, starting this year, the company is permanently closing those emails that show a great inactivity, assuming that these accounts are not being used and are in a state of abandonment.
