Google’s new AI update will change how we search. It’s here and here’s what it means

Google is rolling out a major update to its Search experience, introducing a revamped AI Mode designed to make search more actionable, visual, and interactive. With new capabilities like personalized suggestions, product discovery, and local business insights, Google aims to push beyond basic information retrieval into a more dynamic assistant-style experience.

Smarter decisions through visual and local results

The updated AI Mode now integrates visual cards for products and local businesses, displaying ratings, reviews, real-time prices, inventory updates, and even store photos. Whether you’re looking for a foldable camping chair under $100 or a nearby hair salon, AI Mode surfaces tailored results instantly—complete with shopping links and availability.

Continue where you left off

A new desktop panel enables users to resume past search sessions with saved queries and generated results, ideal for long-term projects or multi-step decisions. Instead of starting from scratch, users can now refine, revisit, and expand their searches with ease.

Multimodal and mobile-friendly features

Available on the Google app for iOS and Android, AI Mode supports text, voice, and image-based queries, transforming search into a fully multimodal experience. Snap a photo of a sweater or speak your request—AI Mode responds contextually with real-time, actionable information.

Gradual rollout into standard Search

While still housed in Search Labs, a small group of U.S. users will begin seeing AI Mode integrated directly into regular Search, suggesting that Google is preparing for a broader transformation of its core platform.
