More than ten years have passed since the release of GTA V. Since then, Rockstar’s title has remained on the podium of the most popular games with barely any signs of exhaustion. An achievement that Rockstar seeks to repeat with GTA 6, the highly anticipated sequel that we all eagerly await.

To make matters worse, the trailer released just a week ago has only increased the already sky-high hype. However, the PC version of Grand Theft Auto 6 is still surrounded by an unsettling mystery. We all know that the game will be available on PlayStation and Xbox, but Rockstar has yet to reveal any information about its release on PC.

Mike York, a former GTA V animator, has come forward to claim that we won’t see the PC version until some time after the console release. According to this former employee, Rockstar will “prioritize” whatever generates the most profit for the company. In the end, money always wins.

“The reason why the PC version will arrive later […] is because they want to prioritize what sells“. York explains his experience within Rockstar: “when I worked on Grand Theft Auto 5, for example, we focused on PS3 and Xbox, but above all we pushed the PS3 to its limits. We put all our energy into it and optimized the game as best as possible on that console […] And the PC version is in the background. There is always a PC version of the game, but it is not fully polished. It is only feeding the other games and making them work”.

York insists that developing a polished PC version of such a massive title like GTA 6 also requires resources that not even Rockstar is capable of providing: “We don’t have the money, the resources, or the workforce. So we prioritize what is best for the company’s economy. So we put all our money into PlayStation, then Xbox, and then PC.”

For now, both PC and console players will have to wait at least until 2025 to set foot on the renewed beaches of Vice City.
