How to activate ChatGPT in Siri

Apple is slowly opening the doors to smarter interactions between Siri and third-party AI tools. With iOS 18.4 and Apple Intelligence, users can now enable direct access to ChatGPT through Siri. This feature allows you to make requests to OpenAI’s chatbot without installing the official app, streamlining the experience on iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

What you need to get started

To activate ChatGPT in Siri, you’ll need an iPhone 15 Pro or newer with iOS 18.4 or above. On iPad, the feature requires an M1 or A17 chip with iPadOS 18.4 or later. Mac users must be running macOS 15.4 on a device with an M1 chip or newer.

How to activate ChatGPT through Siri

Start by invoking Siri and saying something like “Ask ChatGPT to draw a cat.” Siri will respond by prompting you to enable ChatGPT. Tap the “Get started” button and follow the setup process, which includes a short data download and an explanation of how the integration works.

Next, go to Settings > Apple Intelligence and Siri > Extensions, then tap on “ChatGPT.” From there, you can link your OpenAI account, including paid subscriptions. This step is optional, but necessary if you want to access GPT-4 or other premium features.

Optional: streamline your experience

You’ll see a toggle called “Confirm requests to ChatGPT.” Disabling this will prevent Siri from asking for confirmation every time you send a query, making the process much smoother and faster.

Once everything is configured, you can use voice commands to send requests to ChatGPT anytime. Siri will also automatically forward queries it can’t handle, giving ChatGPT more visibility in your daily interactions.
