In an attempt to improve the user experience, Instagram debuted a new feature in 2021 that served to hide the likes of your posts. This way, everything would be more focused on content rather than numbers and statistics.

And this is no accident: numerous scientific studies have shown that Instagram can negatively affect our mental health. Likes are one of the most important pieces here, as they validate us immediately. The more likes we accumulate, the more liked or respected we feel. Once we fall into that hole, we only tend to want more and more.

Knowing this, Instagram updated its application so that users could choose whether or not to hide the number of likes. In addition, it can be hidden before or after publishing a post. If you are interested in activating this option and do not know how to do it, do not worry: we explain it step by step.

Hide likes from other people’s accounts

To get started, take your phone and open the Instagram app. Then select the three lines you will see on the top right and tap on Settings and privacy.

Here you will directly find the option you are interested in: Hide likes. Just click there and activate the tab to hide the likes of accounts not related to you (this includes both those you follow and those you don’t).

Hide the likes on a specific post before uploading it (and also after)

If you want to remove the likes from your own posts, you will have to follow a different process. When publishing a new post, stop on the screen just before Share and click on Advanced settings.

In the next panel, you just have to activate the option Hide likes and view counts on this post. And if you want to remove them also from posts that are already uploaded, just go to the post in question and click on the three dots you will see at the top right. Then select the option Hide Like count.
