Hyundai is set to unveil the highly anticipated Insteroid EV, a sporty electric SUV concept, during the Seoul Mobility Show, starting April 4. This exciting reveal positions the Insteroid as a substantial evolution of Hyundai’s popular Inster EV, which has gained traction in both European and Korean markets.
The name “Insteroid”, a fusion of “Inster” and “Steroid” reflects the vehicle’s intention to embody a “funky, youthful, and muscular” persona, according to Hyundai.
The design teaser has already hinted at impressive visual elements, such as striking 21-inch wheels, massive wheel arches, and the brand’s signature Pixel LED headlights, giving the vehicle a robust, athletic presence.

The Insteroid is built on the foundation of the Inster EV, which is available in Europe with two battery options—42 kWh and 49 kWh—and an impressive WLTP driving range of up to 370 kilometers (approximately 230 miles). The compact Inster EV measures 3,825 mm in length, 1,610 mm in width, and 1,575 mm in height, making it smaller than its competitor, the Kia EV3.
This week, Hyundai launched the ‘Inster EV Cross,’ a rugged variant of the Inster, starting at £28,745 ($35,000) in the UK. The official announcement of the Insteroid EV comes hot on the heels of a recent trademark filing by Hyundai, showcasing the automaker’s commitment to innovation in the electric vehicle segment.
Although the Insteroid EV is currently presented solely as a concept, it can be speculated that this model could pave the way for a larger, more powerful production vehicle in the not-too-distant future. The automotive community eagerly awaits Hyundai’s full unveiling for more details next week.
