Bohemian Rhapsody was a cinematic milestone like few others seen in recent years. The film starring Rami Malek brought musicals and biopics back into the spotlight, becoming one of the highest-grossing movies of 2018 and even earning the Best Actor Oscar for its lead from Mr. Robot.

However, not all Queen fans liked the movie. While it fairly portrays the formation of the band and Freddie Mercury’s journey, it left out many details, including some controversial ones, which left much of the audience wanting more. That’s why, if you want to delve 100% into the story of Queen, the best approach is to watch the new documentary just released on HBO Max, produced by the BBC: Queen: Days of Our Lives.

Queen: Days of Our Lives: the great Queen documentary

Released on May 29, 2011, through the BBC, Queen: Days of Our Lives is considered the best and most comprehensive documentary ever made about the London band. Directed by Matt O’Casey, it was one of the first to portray the band’s journey in its entirety, and it is primarily narrated by Brian May, Roger Taylor, and Jim Beach.

Queen: Days of Our Lives utilizes archival interview footage and various concert clips to depict how this group came together, grew, and formed the band that conquered the 20th century with iconic songs such as the aforementioned “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “The Show Must Go On,” and “I Want to Break Free.”

But HBO Max not only offers these two hours of Queen material. In addition to “Days of Our Lives,” the streaming platform has also premiered “Freddie Mercury: The Great Pretender,” another documentary from the BBC dating back to 2012, which focuses on the singer’s life. Undoubtedly, it’s a perfect double feature to learn everything about the band.
