Epic Games has initiated a new legal battle by suing Isaac ‘i5aac’ Strock, accused of stealing and selling Fortnite accounts for prices that can reach up to $1,000 on the black market. According to the complaint filed in the U.S., Strock uses illegal methods to access other players’ accounts, including obtaining usernames and passwords, as well as email data associated with those accounts, using information available on the dark web.
Epic Games makes it clear: this is something that affects them and other players
The development company highlights that Strock’s actions not only harm Epic Games but also severely affect the community of legitimate players who have invested time and money in their accounts. Epic Games emphasizes that the situation creates an uneven gaming experience, where offenders enjoy advantages over honest players. “Strock’s actions harm Epic and the Fortnite community,” the complaint states.
In an attempt to curb this type of harmful activity, Epic Games has been in contact with Strock on numerous occasions, after receiving multiple requests from them to access other people’s accounts. The video game company has allocated significant resources to investigate and prevent Strock’s criminal behavior, emphasizing the need to protect players from the repercussions of their actions.
The company has also implemented various policies to ensure that Fortnite remains a safe and fair space. Recently, Epic Games has cracked down on cheating and fraud, even going so far as to offer second chances to those players who were suspended. In this context, the outcome of this lawsuit is expected to set a precedent in the fight against account theft within the Fortnite universe.
