New Zealand-based electric hydrofoil boat manufacturer Vessev has officially announced its expansion into the United States with the opening of its first international office, which will serve as the new headquarters for overseas operations.
This strategic move aims to establish a strong market presence in the U.S., and comes on the heels of the company’s successful operations in New Zealand, where it tested its flagship vessel, the VS–9.
Heading the North American expansion is Josh Trout, a seasoned marine technology veteran, who has been appointed as the Director of Hydrofoil Operations.

Trout emphasized the uniqueness of Vessev’s hydrofoiling technology, stating, “I’ve worked at the bleeding edge of marine technology for over 20 years, and the innovation and forethought of Vessev’s unique hydrofoiling technology is unparalleled”.
His leadership is expected to guide the company’s plans not only to penetrate the U.S. market but also to manufacture vessels locally, thus creating new jobs and establishing a solid foundation for service and support in the region.
Vessev plans to roll out local production of its electric hydrofoil boats, echoing similar ambitions faced in New Zealand. The strategic decision comes at a time when sustainable marine technology is gaining traction among commercial operators and private customers alike.
With its first customer secured, NetZero Maritime—part of New Zealand’s largest ferry operator, Fullers360—Vessev aims to replicate its success in the U.S.
The new Rhode Island office will be pivotal for the company’s growth strategy as it aims to streamline business operations and enhance its reach in international markets. As Vessev takes these significant steps forward, industry insiders are eager to see how this innovation in electric boating will impact the landscape of sustainable marine technology in the United States.
