Apple is very likely to release iOS 16.5 next week, according to a private Twitter account. The said profile had previously leaked the build numbers of previous updates, even a week before its official unveiling.
In a recent tweet, the account noted that the RC (Release Candidate) version of iOS 16.5 will feature build number 20F65. With Apple’s announcement of iOS 17 at the upcoming WWDC in June just days away, this update looks like a minor one. So far, only two significant iPhone features and enhancements have been unveiled: a dedicated Sports tab within Apple News and the new feature to initiate an on-screen recording with Siri.
The new Apple News Sports section
In iOS 16.5, Apple has decided to include a new Sports tab within its Apple News platform. Thanks to this, users will be able to enjoy direct access to the news and results of their favorite teams and leagues. Although this information was already available in Apple News, it is now presented in a more highlighted way. This is in line with Apple’s commitment to sports through its services (would Ted Lasso count here?).
On-screen recording via Siri
iOS 16.5 also introduces an additional feature that allows users to ask Siri to record the iPhone‘s screen. By simply saying “Hey Siri, start a screen recording”, the assistant will do the rest. In addition, you will also be able to ask it to stop recording.
While this feature is coming to Siri, it is still possible to start a recording via Control Center. If you don’t know how to do it, just go to Settings and then Control Center. Once there, you can customize shortcuts to various actions, such as screen recording.
