The long-standing rumor in the tech industry that has been on everyone’s lips for the past few months finally has a face, or rather, a case. In a series of images posted on Weibo and Twitter, cases designed for the upcoming iPhone 15 Pro reveal some significant changes in the design of Apple’s highly anticipated phone. While we still have to wait for the official information from the company until the launch in the fall, most likely in September, these images give us a glimpse of what we could expect from the new model.

A design that we already take for granted, but with possible surprises

The first feature we can observe in the leaked images is the relocation of the power and volume buttons, which are now slightly lower compared to the iPhone 14 Pro models. It may seem like a minor change, but it has the potential for significant impact in terms of ergonomics and usability, likely making it easier for users to interact with their devices. This becomes even more evident in the larger-sized Max models.

Furthermore, the leaked images unveil changes in the charging port, as other sources have indicated a shift from the current Lightning port to USB-C. This transition will require additional space at the bottom of the phone. While this move is widely anticipated beyond the leaked cases and other renders we have seen in the past, it will have a significant impact on port standardization, albeit not without some controversies.

The third and final noteworthy detail from these newly leaked cases is the change in the mute button. It will replace the old switch located above the volume buttons. The mute button will retain its position but will no longer require physical displacement, allowing Apple to make it smaller. This reduction in size applies to both the internal components and the external appearance. As depicted in the images, the space required for the mute button in the case is noticeably reduced.

Let’s also remember that this button will not only allow us to mute the phone but is intended to serve as a multi-purpose action button, similar to the Apple Watch Ultra. It will enable shortcuts, quick actions, customizable options, and more. Muting and unmuting is just one example of what we should be able to do with it.

Additional hints can be derived from images of other cases shared on Twitter by Majin Bu. These images reveal the larger size of the camera lenses and the increased space dedicated to the rear microphone of the phone.

If we add to all of this our expectation that the design of the iPhone 15 will surprise us with a titanium chassis, slightly curved front and back edges that lead to slimmer bezels, we’re talking about a significant change. This change is also important because it will create more space inside for additional components. Especially considering that phones sold in the United States no longer feature a physical SIM card slot, and those sold in other parts of Europe may follow suit.

Having said all that, these leaks, although very interesting, are precisely that: leaks. We still await official confirmation from Apple, and we must not forget that these features may change or, in some cases, may not materialize. However, these images give us an idea of the possible design of the iPhone 15 Pro, and one thing is certain: the whole world is eagerly waiting to see what else Apple has up its sleeve. Until its official launch in September, we’ll be keeping an eye on the rumors.
