Only a few days ago, we learned about the number of players Starfield has had during its first few days. The figure was impressive, but now it was necessary to translate it into sales. Pending confirmation in more markets, we do know that in the UK, it has been a resounding success: number 1 in stores.

The information was revealed by journalist Christopher Dring, one of the heavyweights at Games Industry. According to him, Starfield hasn’t been the biggest physical release of 2023, as it has been surpassed by Hogwarts Legacy, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Resident Evil 4 Remake, or Final Fantasy XVI. However, it has matched the sales of Diablo 4, a fact he considers quite “significant.”

This is noteworthy for one reason: Diablo 4 was a digital success, something that has also happened similarly with Starfield, with the significant detail that Starfield hasn’t been released on PlayStation 5 (only on PC and Xbox Series X | S), unlike Activision Blizzard’s adventure.

If we add in the downloads from Xbox Game Pass, then we would have strong physical sales, robust digital sales, and a significant number of downloads thanks to Xbox Game Pass. An impressive package that, in the words of Christopher Dring, could be “the biggest release of 2023” (let’s not forget that the figures from last week spoke of more than 6 million users).

While the number of Starfield players continues to grow step by step, the key now is to determine what the ceiling is. And it’s worth noting that Todd Howard didn’t exactly make friends in a recent interview.
