Puzzle Quest: Immortal Edition is the latest installment of a classic puzzle game that combines match-3 mechanics with RPG elements, released nearly two decades after its first version in 2007. This return has been met with nostalgia from fans, reflecting the philosophy that sometimes, the classics cannot be surpassed.
To strain the brain
The gameplay of Puzzle Quest remains true to its essence, allowing players to align colored gems to generate resources that enable them to cast spells and fight enemies. Unlike traditional match-3 games, where the goal is to accumulate points, here each combination has direct consequences in battle, such as dealing damage to opponents or accumulating mana. This adds a strategic dimension to each move, which feels fresh and challenging.
Although the game’s story is quite predictable, its fantasy adventure narrative is complemented by an artistic style that has been updated to 4K in this edition. The simplicity of combining gems to enhance spells feels timeless, and the 2025 edition manages to capture the same essence that made its predecessor popular. Each battle presents a new challenge, offering a strategic variety depending on the enemy the player faces.
Players can choose from a wide range of character classes at the start of their adventure, each with unique spells and abilities. A notable addition in the Immortal Edition is the new Sorcerer class, which brings mana-draining effects. Additionally, the edition includes all original downloadable content, allowing players to explore more quests and equipment.
Although some were expecting more significant innovations, Puzzle Quest: Immortal Edition is highly recommended for new players and those looking to rediscover one of the best references in the fusion of match-3 games and RPGs.
