When it comes to uploading a video to YouTube, many content creators spend much more time racking their brains to create a good thumbnail than actually filming the video itself. Standing out on YouTube is one of the most challenging tasks for creators who, day after day, must “compete” with thousands of accounts and millions of videos.

Now, YouTube wants to make the job easier for YouTubers and has announced that it is testing a new feature that will allow creators to create the perfect thumbnail for their videos. As explained in a video by the Creator Insider channel, the tool is called “Try and Compare,” and it will allow content creators to upload up to three thumbnails for each video, so that the platform itself can determine which one yields better results.

This type of feature, known as A/B testing, is one of the most requested by users, according to YouTube. The company has shared a screenshot of the tool, which shows that “Try and Compare” will display the thumbnail’s watch time as a percentage upon completing an A/B test.

Currently, YouTube states that it is testing the feature with “a few hundred content creators,” but plans to launch a beta version for thousands more in the coming months before rolling it out to all creators next year.

YouTube is constantly evolving to stay at the forefront of the online video content world. Just a month ago, YouTube announced that Reels, a Stories-like feature that didn’t quite catch on, would be discontinued on Monday, June 26th. In addition, the company recently showcased a new advertising offering to its advertisers in the form of unskippable 30-second ads.
