The Twitch experience has been a pending matter for the platform itself. Streamers and users have been complaining for years about the limited options available for effectively controlling toxic and harmful behavior during streams. After a long wait, it seems that Amazon is taking it more seriously with regard to its upcoming major update.

“According to recent reports, Twitch is set to prevent any user who is banned from a stream from viewing its content. This means that not only will they be unable to comment in the chat, as is the case currently, but they won’t even be able to watch the broadcast itself.

The specific streamer will have a button in their broadcasting panel to decide whether to enable this feature or not. If activated, when a blocked user attempts to access the particular stream, they will see nothing on the screen except a black background and a message indicating that they are banned by that profile.”

It is not yet clear how this will affect video on demand and clips, as they may still be viewable. In fact, accessing the stream through incognito mode on the browser or even logging out of the user account will still allow viewing.

However, let’s focus on the positive: it’s a significant step towards creating a healthier platform, distancing it from the toxicity caused by thousands of users. There is still a long road ahead – and not a small one – so the rest is about continuing to improve what’s already in place.
