There is a live-action video game movie that we all knew would eventually happen, but that doesn’t mean we were prepared to see it in action. By that, I mean that Warner Bros. has just released the first teaser trailer for A Minecraft Movie.

The movie features real actors and a slightly realistic version of Minecraft. But when you mix the iconic blocky style of the game with real life, you get something quite strange.

Setting aside the disturbing images, the Minecraft movie seems to be fun family entertainment. It has lots of jokes, large-scale battles, and Jack Black proudly exclaiming, “I’m Steve!” And obviously, there is mining and crafting.

In addition to Jack Black, the film features the participation of Jason Momoa, Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, Sebastian Eugene Hansen, and Jennifer Coolidge. It is directed by Jared Hess, known for Napoleon Dynamite, and will be released in theaters in North America on April 4, 2025.

Of course, now we live in a time where video game adaptations are no longer expected to be bad, so a Minecraft movie will be released in a world with the Super Mario Bros. movie and the Sonic the Hedgehog trilogy as competition.

This is not the only adaptation of Minecraft being prepared; Netflix is also working on an animated series.
