Every time I do my grocery shopping I face the same problem: I’m a complete disaster at making shopping lists and then following them, so I usually end up buying all kinds of chocolate treats and forgetting about the essentials to cook during the rest of the week.
Luckily for me, a couple of days ago I found what it seems the perfect solution for my grocery shopping syndrome. It’s a Firefox plug-in called Grocery List Generator that enables you to manage recipes and create shopping lists based on the recipe you choose to cook. In a way it works similarly to some websites I know, like RecipeMatcher, which help you to find recipes according to the ingredients you have at home.
Grocery List Generator includes a recipe management tool that you can use to enter your recipes and share them with other people on the developer’s website. When you select any of the recipes in the database, all the necessary ingredients are magically checked on the food list. Then you only have to click on the correspondent button to generate the shopping list (in HTML format) and drop by your nearest supermarket. I’m sure this is going to help me a lot in organizing my weekly grocery shopping, but I’m still going to add those chocolates to the basket before checking out.
