Max, the streaming platform owned by Warner Bros. Discovery, has begun to implement a highly anticipated feature related to limiting account sharing outside the home, following the example of competitors like Netflix and Disney+.
This new option, called “Additional Member Add-On,” is now available in the United States and allows account holders to add an additional profile for a person who does not live at the same residence, for a monthly fee of $7.99.
The new member will have a separate account under the same subscription, retaining their viewing history and personalized recommendations, making for a more tailored experience to their preferences.
HBO Max will only allow adding an extra account for €7.99
However, unlike Netflix, which allows adding up to three additional profiles, Max only allows one per account, which represents a more restrictive approach in its limitation strategy.
This implementation aims not only to offer greater flexibility to subscribers but also to respond to the growing pressure to increase revenue in a highly competitive streaming market. JB Perrette, CEO of global streaming and games at Warner Bros. Discovery, stated that these advancements are designed to provide viewers with an exceptional way to enjoy the content available on Max.
In addition to this new feature, Max has increased its subscription prices, simultaneously launching a new basic plan with ads at a cost of 6.99 euros per month. This strategy of offering more affordable plans while adjusting the rates of premium services is in line with market trends that have been adopted by other platforms such as Disney+ and Prime Video.
Although the role of “additional member” has not yet been implemented in Spain, it is expected to be only a matter of time before it arrives in the country, as Max continues to adjust its business strategy in a constantly evolving environment.
