Unknown Origins is one of the most surprising Spanish films of recent years. Released on Netflix in 2020, it brought superheroes to Spain in a very original way, with a very fine blend between thriller and comedy. After that film, director David Galán Galindo released ‘Gora Automatikoa,’ an animated film that rightfully made its way to the Goya Awards. And now, he has just premiered his third feature film as a director at the Monterrey Festival: ‘Matusalén.’

At the movie premiere, Galindo was accompanied by producer Enrique Cerezo and co-writer Fernando H. Barral. Regarding the cast, it undoubtedly has everything to make the film stand out. ‘Matusalén’ stars Julián López, Miren Ibarguren, Elena de Lara, Jason Fernández, Raúl Cimas, Lucía de la Fuente, Antonio Resines, and Carlos Areces. Quite an ensemble!

What is Methuselah about?

Methuselah is a movie that blends rap and hip-hop culture with the harsh certainty that we all grow older, and what we once thought was so modern has long ceased to be. The synopsis of the film makes it clear that, despite the humor and the heartfelt presence of endearing characters, it doesn’t spare anyone:

Aging is inevitable, maturing is optional.” That’s the maxim of ‘El Alber,’ a rapper who, at 44 years old, enrolls in university due to a bet with his father. If he doesn’t pass all his exams, he must give up “that silly rap thing” forever. At the university, Alber reunites with Amaia, a radio host and professor there, and discovers that something very important was missing in his life: love. This is the story of a forty-something rapper considered a child by his parents and a grandpa by his classmates. He was sent to university to change, yet he ended up changing everyone else. This is the story of Methuselah.
