Actor Michael Mando has confirmed his return as Mac Gargan, also known as The Scorpion, in the upcoming movie Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is set to be released on July 31, 2026, as part of Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Mando shared a selfie on his Instagram account showing the iconic scorpion tattoo on his neck, accompanied by the word “Sting,” which has generated great excitement among fans.
A classic Spider-Man villain
The Scorpion was captured by the FBI at the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming, and is imprisoned alongside Adrian Toomes, known as the Vulture. In a prison conversation, The Scorpion reveals his plans for revenge against Spider-Man, which sets up a powerful narrative arc for his character in the new film. With the premise of a ten-year sentence, and given that the movie seems to take place a few years after the events of Homecoming, there is a possibility that Gargan could be released, either for good behavior or some form of legal leniency.
There are rumors that The Scorpion could transform into a cybernetic character, as suggested by some versions of the comics. In particular, speculation has intensified following the appearance of concept art showing The Scorpion alongside Venom, which suggests that Mando could be hinting at a possible adoption of the symbiote by his character. Fans have speculated about the possibility of Mac Gargan becoming the third host of the Venom symbiote, although it is more likely that we will see a more complete version of The Scorpion before this happens, especially in light of Tom Hardy’s previous statements about the absence of Eddie Brock in Spider-Man 4.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day promises to present an intriguing evolution for one of the most complex villains in the Spider-Man universe, as fans eagerly await further developments in the upcoming Marvel releases.
