Last July, developer 343 Industries released a new and substantial update for Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Since then, fans haven’t heard much about the game. Has its development been closed?

At the end of last year, rumors began to circulate that the game was being prepared for closure. And recently, a new report has shed more light on what seems to be happening behind the scenes, stating that Microsoft decided to close the development of Halo: The Master Chief Collection despite 343 Industries wanting to continue working on the game.

This is a somewhat confusing rumor if we take into account that Halo: MCC received a small patch last month, but it explains why the developer has been silent about the game since last July.

It’s not clear, but there are suspicions about HTMCC

The report comes from Rebs Gaming, which claims that Microsoft ended development of Halo: MCC last July due to a lack of a steady revenue stream. Although this information should be taken with caution, Rebs Gaming has successfully leaked other data about Halo, such as the release dates for Halo Infinite’s multiplayer content. But that doesn’t mean it’s 100% true.

Fans will remember that 343 “explored” the possibility of adding microtransactions last June, but the response from fans was very negative, so the team never went ahead with the plan.

Once again, it is difficult to say to what extent all of this is legitimate, but it is evident that the timeline matches very well. That, in itself, suggests that this information is probably legitimate.

It is also worth noting that, apparently, 343 was not happy with Microsoft’s decision. After all, the team was able to carry out the project and turn it into a success, at least in the eyes of the fans.

Most likely, the support patch released a few weeks ago is simply an update made by a small team to fix some issues and not a sign that something bigger is coming.

Fortunately, Halo fans are in luck. Halo Infinite continues to receive updates and improvements and, above all, the second season of Halo has been a success.

The second season of the television series has two more episodes left, which will end on March 21st. Nothing is known yet about a third season, but it seems likely, given the positive reception of the second season.
