Microsoft has already revealed the two applications that will not be included in upcoming installations of Windows 11. In cases like these, it’s hard to say whether removing certain applications from an operating system is good or bad. However, in this instance, it appears to be a move aimed at optimizing installations of the mentioned system by Microsoft.

Indeed, through the Windows 11 Canary channel, Microsoft has introduced version 25987, revealing that the Maps and Movies & TV apps will no longer be part of the mentioned operating system and its future releases. The removal of both apps didn’t come as a surprise to almost anyone, so it was just a matter of time before this action was implemented.

Microsoft aims to make the installation of Windows 11 increasingly streamlined

Certainly, this change will not affect those who have an earlier version of Windows 11, where the Maps and Movies & TV apps are still present, and they want to update to build 25897. In other words, if this is your case, both apps will remain in the system. Moreover, both applications can still be found on the Microsoft Store, so individuals can install them on their own if desired, after installing Windows 11 directly.

In the official changelog, it reads as follows: “Starting from this build, Windows Maps and Windows Movies & TV apps will no longer be installed after clean installing the OS. Windows Maps and Windows Movies & TV will not be removed during the update process for Insiders in the Canary channel and will continue to be available and updated via the Microsoft Store.”

For the moment, Microsoft has not provided the reasons for not installing the two mentioned applications by default with the Windows 11 installation, although there probably aren’t many people concerned about it. Moreover, as we mentioned, if we want, these can still be downloaded from the Microsoft Store without any issues.
