There is no doubt that Mission Impossible is one of the most important action franchises of recent years. The franchise, starring Tom Cruise, began in 1996 under the direction of Brian De Palma, and since then, it has continued to expand with the increasingly wild adventures of its protagonist, Ethan Hunt.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, the next installment in the franchise that will consist of two parts (the seventh and eighth of the series), will hit theaters worldwide on July 12. However, while the fact that it is divided into two parts hints at the importance of this story, director Christopher McQuarrie doesn’t believe that Mission Impossible is coming to an end anytime soon.

Is Tom Cruise’s farewell coming?

Although there had been speculation that Dead Reckoning would serve as a farewell for Ethan Hunt, McQuarrie has reassured fans that his team already has ideas for “what comes next” in the Light the Fuse podcast, debunking rumors about the franchise coming to an end soon.

The upcoming two-part film has been co-written by McQuarrie and Erik Jendresen. McQuarrie serves as a producer alongside Tom Cruise, and the movie features Cruise alongside Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Vanessa Kirby, and Henry Czerny.

In this new film, Ethan Hunt and his team track down an extremely dangerous weapon that threatens the fate of the world, while a very powerful enemy stands in their way. From what we know so far, it will be Cruise’s most dangerous adventure yet… and that’s saying something.
