Foxconn, a major player in the electronics manufacturing sector, is making headlines once again as it gears up to launch an offensive in the electric vehicle market (BEV) in the United States.
The Taiwanese company’s automotive division plans to introduce two models, the Model C and Model D, with the initial release set for late 2025.
These vehicles are designed to be produced first in Taiwan, with the potential for future manufacturing on American soil.
Foxconn Confirms Plans for Six All-Electric Models Amid Trade Tensions
In a recent media briefing, Jun Seki, a high-ranking Foxconn executive, confirmed plans to develop six all-electric models, hinting at a robust expansion strategy. While the company is currently in discussions with Japanese automakers Nissan, Honda, and Mitsubishi for collaboration on software-defined vehicles (SDVs), no specific agreements have been disclosed as of yet.
The Model C, a crossover that has recently seen market activity domestically, is anticipated to be the first available for American consumers, followed by the multi-purpose Model D. Notably, both models are expected to be produced eventually in Foxconn’s Ohio facility, which the company acquired during its tumultuous relationship with Lordstown Motors.
However, the ongoing trade tensions between the U.S. and China could significantly impact Foxconn’s operational decisions. Increased tariffs may influence whether the company opts to import these EVs or accelerate local production in North America.
This development is particularly noteworthy given Foxconn’s past challenges in the electric vehicle sector, including its involvement with Lordstown Motors and other partnerships that have faced setbacks.
As Foxconn navigates the complexities of the EV market and international trade dynamics, the arrival of the Model C and Model D will be a pivotal moment for both the manufacturer and American consumers eager for new electric vehicle options.
