Nowadays, the most remembered IPs are making a comeback through film adaptations and/or television series. Dozens of characters that have always been within our reach are returning with a new perspective, such as Sonic, Super Mario, or Bugs Bunny. So it was only a matter of time before this trend also reached The Pink Panther.

As reported by Screen Rant, MGM Studios is developing a new Pink Panther movie, and the intended protagonist is someone who is coming back from the 90s and seeking a new era of success: Eddie Murphy.

The actor known for Beverly Hills Cop and The Nutty Professor had a great time during the 90s and early 2000s. However, his career gradually faded away and he has only made momentary comebacks in films like Coming 2 America. Nevertheless, for the Pink Panther remake, they want to cast him as Inspector Clouseau, and this could bring him back into the spotlight.

The Pink Panther… now in CGI

The Pink Panther was born in 1963 as a film directed by Blake Edwards and starring Peter Sellers. It is a timeless comedy that has aged well, and it was so successful that an animated series was created shortly after, followed by a remake with Steve Martin in 2006, which had a sequel in 2009.

In the original film, a famous jewel thief attempts to steal the world’s most fabulous diamond, the Pink Panther. But Inspector Clouseau tries to prevent it. More or less, this dynamic has been followed in the other films, but the plot that MGM is handling for the new movie is somewhat different.

Unlike previous Pink Panther installments, the new movie will incorporate the animated character, who made his debut in the opening scenes of the original films before having his own life as a cartoon character. In this way, we will see how the animated Pink Panther (created using CGI) escapes from prison to carry out a heist in the real world.

It is not clear if the project will ultimately move forward, but initial discussions are taking place, and MGM is eager to revive one of their most recognized brands. Undoubtedly, it could mark a great comeback for Eddie Murphy to the big screen.
