Amazon Prime Video is one of the most popular platforms today. Although it has Netflix as its main competitor, it has already managed to surpass its numbers in countries like Spain, allowing it to produce series as expensive as Citadel or The Rings of Power. Now, a science fiction film released in early 2023 has gained popularity, and it has nothing to envy to other international productions on the platform.
“Awareness” is the name of the sci-fi feature film that has just been released on Amazon Prime Video. Directed by Daniel Benmayor, the director behind the intricate film “Xtremo,” the movie stars Pedro Alonso, who played Berlin in “Money Heist,” as its main asset in the cast. But he’s not the only one: it also features María Pedraza, Óscar Jaenada, and the protagonist Carlos Scholz.
What is Awareness about?
This Spanish science fiction film is set in a dystopian future and tells the story of Ian (Scholz), a rebellious teenager who lives with his father away from society. Both of them engage in small-scale scams using Ian’s extraordinary power: he can project visual illusions into the minds of others, making them believe that everything is real.
When Ian loses control over his powers, a mysterious secret agency starts pursuing him, believing that he could be very useful to them. Ian must flee from them to avoid falling into their trap, but along the way, he discovers that he is not the only one with these powers… and that there is a lot of hidden secrets behind this truth.
The movie has rather mixed reviews. While there is a lot of talk about its good ability to deliver action, the script and the story behind it don’t seem to be as impressive. Nevertheless, it’s always a pleasure to see great actors like Pedro Alonso and Óscar Jaenada in tough roles of this kind.
