Now, considering that we are in the “spooky season” and Halloween is approaching, Netflix is doubling down on more horror content. Its major additions this month include “Sister Death,” Paco Plaza’s film about a demonic nun, and “The Fall of the House of Usher,” the latest series by Mike Flanagan for the platform. But the streaming service has just released another horror movie that is perfect for Halloween: “The Witches”.

A family-friendly horror movie

Released in 2020, “The Witches” is an adaptation of Roald Dahl’s mythical tale, directed by none other than Robert Zemeckis (known for “Back to the Future” and “Forrest Gump”). The film stars Anne Hathaway and Octavia Spencer, along with Chris Rock, Stanley Tucci, Jahzir Bruno, and Angus Wright.

The movie tells the epic story of an orphan, played by Bruno, who, in the late 1960s, goes to live with his grandmother in Demopolis, a town in Alabama. The boy and his grandmother have strange encounters with seemingly glamorous but absolutely diabolical witches. To protect him, she decides to take him to a luxury hotel on the coast. Unfortunately, they arrive exactly at the same time that the Grand High Witch (Hathaway) has gathered her fellow witches from around the world – all in disguise – to carry out their horrible plans.

Certainly, revisiting “The Witches” on Netflix presents a wonderful opportunity to rediscover it and enjoy a delightful yet spooky family movie night.
