Nissan is gearing up to electrify its lineup with several new electric vehicles set to launch in the coming years, marking a significant shift toward sustainable mobility.
Among the most anticipated is an updated version of the iconic LEAF, which has been rebranded as a crossover, boasting enhancements across the board.
This new LEAF, alongside the existing Ariya SUV, will represent a revitalized Nissan electric vehicle (EV) lineup in North America.

In addition to the new LEAF, Nissan teased a boxy, adventure-focused electric SUV designed to appeal to outdoorsy drivers. This rugged vehicle, reminiscent of the discontinued Xterra, is planned for production at Nissan’s Canton, Mississippi plant, with an expected launch in late 2027.
The new SUV is anticipated to be slightly smaller than Nissan’s fourth-generation Rogue and Pathfinder, enabling a blend of compact design with off-road capabilities.
Nissan’s forthcoming electric SUV is poised to compete in a growing segment that includes the Hyundai Santa Fe and the upcoming Volkswagen Scout. Rivian’s R3X is also among the challengers that the new Nissan EV will face, indicating the company’s ambition to establish a foothold in the competitive electric SUV market.
Nissan’s decision to file a new trademark for the Xterra name suggests an intention to revive the spirit of off-roading in an electric format, potentially marking a new era for adventure-seeking EV enthusiasts.
Looking ahead, 2028 will see the debut of a luxury Infiniti electric SUV inspired by the Vision QXe concept, further expanding Nissan’s electrification efforts. The introduction of the Rogue PHEV as its first plug-in hybrid in North America this year underscores Nissan’s commitment to diversifying its powertrain options while making strides toward a greener future.
