It was clear that Google wouldn’t miss the opportunity to test the potential of its artificial intelligence in its current services. And YouTube is the ideal site to see how well their new tool works.

YouTube’s latest experiments with AI include a new chatbot designed to provide you with more information about the video you’re watching.

The conversational AI tool, as it’s referred to in Google’s support post, aims to answer your questions about a video and can also recommend related content.

It can also ask you questions about a topic if you’re watching an educational video. This experimental feature has been announced alongside another AI tool that aims to organize video comments into topics.

Google aims to integrate its AI into all of its services

Both features are part of a broader effort by Google to integrate AI into all of its services, such as Search, Gmail, and its office productivity suite.

In YouTube specifically, we have already seen how the company announced a series of AI-driven features aimed at video creators, including AI-generated backgrounds for shorts, an AI-based dubbing feature to translate videos into other languages, and AI-based audio and video theme suggestions.

They are also working on an AI tool that allows users to create their own songs in the style of famous musicians.

YouTube emphasizes that its two new AI tools are currently only available as part of limited experiments. According to their support page, the conversational AI tool is only available in English, on certain videos, on Android devices, and for U.S. Premium subscribers over 18 years old.

When it’s available, you can access it by clicking the “Ask” button located below the video. Screenshots of the feature show how you can choose from pre-generated messages that ask the chatbot to summarize the video or recommend related content, or you can write your own messages.

The platform had already announced in July that it was experimenting with AI to generate automatic video summaries. However, the new tool seems to have a broader scope as it not only offers AI-generated summaries but also provides answers to specific questions and information about videos that goes beyond what is currently being watched.

In addition to the conversational AI tool, YouTube has also announced a new AI-based comment categorization feature, which aims to classify video comments into individual topics.
