If there’s an actor capable of tackling all kinds of genres and characters, that’s Robert De Niro. Despite being classified as the mafia figure from movies like “Goodfellas” or “The Irishman,” the actor has ventured into various genres and roles. He even worked with a Spanish director, Rodrigo Cortés, in the film “Red Lights.” And now he’s participating in a Spanish-speaking production once again.
“Nada” is an Argentine series directed by Mariano Cohn and Gastón Duprat, who have worked on films like “Official Competition” and “My Masterpiece.” In the Latin American country, they are quite popular, and they are once again demonstrating their talents with this dramatic comedy that premieres exclusively at the San Sebastián Film Festival.
An Argentine series for fans of cooking
The series is an original production of Star+, which, outside of the United States, is available on the Disney+ platform. It will be available worldwide on October 11th. Prior to that, at the San Sebastián Festival, viewers will have the opportunity to watch the first of its five half-hour episodes. However, De Niro will not appear in this one; he reserves his appearance for the final episode, where he makes a special guest appearance.
“Nada” follows the story of Manuel (Luis Brandoni), a food critic from Buenos Aires. Manuel’s life takes an unexpected turn when he decides to hire Antonia, an inexperienced young woman from a small village in Paraguay, to help in his home. This decision leads him to teach Antonia not only about culinary matters but also about personal relationships and tastes.
De Niro’s participation is mainly because he is good friends with Luis Brandoni. Apparently, the actor asked to appear, and De Niro had no problem lending a hand. It’s an incredible gesture from the Taxi Driver actor, but this is just one of the many interesting elements of the series.
