To be precise, Valve has begun selling refurbished consoles. If this term is new to you, “refurbished” devices are those that were broken or had issues and have been repaired. In the case of the Steam Deck, these are consoles that have been fixed, factory reset, and subjected to a testing and verification process.

Valve itself stipulates that the refurbished consoles for sale undergo checks for “all forms of input, sound system, display, and internal components, as well as battery health, to ensure functionality and lifespan are adequate.” In other words, they are identical to a brand-new Steam Deck. “Each device goes through a complete factory reset, software update, and a comprehensive review involving more than 100 tests,” they note.

The prices for these new consoles are as follows:

  • 64 GB Steam Deck – €339 (instead of €419)
  • 256 GB Steam Deck – €439 (instead of €549)
  • 512 GB Steam Deck – €539 (instead of €679)

Generally, refurbished products work just as well as new ones. In other words: go ahead and grab one if you’ve been looking for it for a while.
