Overshadowed in the last couple of months by its older rival, the news and updates of the Capcom classic seem to have arrived with more calmness than they did before its release. But now, almost a year since its release, we are confirmed that one of its great fighters is just around the corner.
Akuma is the next character coming to Street Fighter 6. Being the fourth and final fighter to be released as part of Year 1 post-launch content for the fighting game, he has undergone a major graphic redesign, following the same style as the other characters in the game. Aged, with a mane and a gray beard, but the same fierceness and tendency for violence, he is presented to us in a trailer where there is no doubt that he is older, but still the same demon.
For those who are not familiar with the Street Fighter story, Akuma is the younger brother of Gouken, the master of Ryu and Ken. Debuting in Super Street Fighter 2, he has missed very few installments since then, always considered one of the most powerful characters in each of them, thanks to a technique based on total offense.
In addition, Akuma comes to make a peculiar journey. Because his last appearance was not in any Street Fighter, but in the competition. Akuma was one of the guest characters in Tekken 7, with his story fully integrated into the franchise’s lore, and presenting himself as one of the strongest characters in the entire roster. So much so, that he became a problem in tournaments and ranked matches, due to how clearly superior he was to most other characters. Something very appropriate to his story.
Upon his arrival in Street Fighter 6, we will not only be able to control him for our fights, but he will also be integrated into the entirety of the game. To start, he will appear as a master in the World Tour mode, and, to mark his arrival, there will be several events in the Battle Hub in which he will be the absolute protagonist.
In any case, this is not the end of the new content for Street Fighter 6. The game director, Takayuki Nakayama, has confirmed that they are already working on Year 2 content for the game. Meanwhile, we just have to wait for the arrival of Akuma, who will arrive sometime in the upcoming spring, yet to be confirmed.
