At the moment, Sony has over 47 million PlayStation Plus subscribers. The figure is impressive, revealing that nearly 1/3 of PlayStation 4 owners have access to the subscription service in one of its forms, whether Essential, Extra, or Premium. However, this also indicates that there are still many people yet to discover the benefits of the service. For this reason, PS Plus will be available for free.
Yes, you read that right. Sony has announced that any owner of a PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 will have free access to PlayStation Plus (as long as they’re connected to the internet). Obviously, this isn’t a lifelong offer but part of a weekend promotion. To be exact, this Saturday, 9th, and Sunday, 10th of December, PlayStation Plus Essential can be used without any issues.
Therefore, multiplayer will be completely free for any player as part of this promotion, but there’s something even more interesting: the games of the month. Alongside the aforementioned online access, any player will have access to the titles announced for December 2023: LEGO 2K Drive (on PS5 and PS4), Powerwash Simulator (for PS5 and PS4), and Sable (this one exclusively for PS5).
This promotion is part of Sony’s occasional campaign to promote PlayStation Plus. In this particular case, the advertising is more necessary than ever, as the Japanese brand has increased the minimum price by 12 euros and a maximum of 32 euros, depending on each subscription.
Interestingly, during the last two fiscal quarters, Sony did not disclose the number of subscribers to PlayStation Plus. The figure mentioned in the first paragraph corresponds to the first quarter of 2023, the most recent digit provided.
