Samuel L. Jackson and Quentin Tarantino have established one of the most iconic collaborations in contemporary cinema history. Since their first work together in 1994 on Pulp Fiction, considered by many to be the director’s best film, the duo has worked a total of six times, including titles such as Jackie Brown, Kill Bill Vol II, Inglourious Basterds, Django Unchained, and The Hateful Eight. This working relationship has allowed Jackson to evolve as an actor and has elevated the quality of Tarantino’s cinema.
A somewhat bumpy journey to becoming their go-to actor
The story of their collaboration began in an unusual way; in 1992, Jackson auditioned for Reservoir Dogs but was not chosen. However, their meeting materialized at a film festival where they met for the first time. Jackson recalls that occasion: “I think he knew we were connected when I saw him at Sundance after he didn’t cast me in his first film”. This moment became the starting point of a joint career that has marked both their paths.
Jackson has mentioned that the time they spend together on set is special, describing it as an opportunity to listen to music and talk about movies, elements that strengthen their professional relationship. “It’s great to know that someone who writes so well trusts me with their material. It makes me want to give more and work harder for him,” the actor commented, reinforcing the idea that their collaboration has been mutually beneficial.
As Tarantino continues his career in cinema, it would not be surprising to see these two icons reunite in future projects. The synergy between them has proven to be a successful formula, creating works that resonate with audiences and solidify their legacy in the world of the seventh art.
