There are moments when recording video discreetly or without distractions becomes essential. FadCam is a free, open-source app designed exactly for that purpose: it allows us to record videos without needing to keep the phone screen on, preserving battery and avoiding unwanted attention. It’s not about secrecy—it’s about practicality.
What makes FadCam so useful
FadCam works like a regular camera app, but with a unique twist: we can lock the screen and the recording continues. This means we can leave the phone on a dashboard, a desk or in a bag, and still capture everything around. Perfect as a dashcam, for recording long events like lectures, or for filming at night without the glow of the screen.
Once we install the app via its APK—it’s not on Google Play—it asks for camera and storage permissions. The interface follows Material Design and is quite simple: a bottom bar gives access to recording controls, and once we press “record,” we can even turn the screen off. All videos are saved within the app’s folder, and won’t appear in the default gallery.
Privacy, battery, and zero ads
FadCam has no ads, no in-app purchases, and no data tracking. The app is only 37 MB and is 100 % free of malware, making it a safe choice for those who need discreet, background video recording. Since it works without lighting up the display, it’s also great for saving battery during extended use.
FadCam doesn’t promote covert use—recording without permission can be illegal in many places. But when used responsibly, it’s one of the most practical apps for private and efficient video capture.
