The digital world woke up in a frenzy this week when Elon Musk, spontaneously, announced that Twitter would undergo a complete rebranding: a new name and logo. In a characteristic twist of his style, Musk called on his followers to design a logo for his “X app,” the “all-in-one” app.

In less than 20 minutes, a logo was selected and the next day it began to be implemented on all Twitter-affiliated accounts. Subsequently, it arrived on the website, the app, and right now, there is no trace of the highly recognizable blue bird that gave the social network its name. Fortunately, on our iPhone or iPad, we can recover the old Twitter icon.

Come back, little birdie!

Restoring the classic Twitter icon on your iPhone or iPad is possible without any strange modifications, jailbreaking, or the like. All you need is the Shortcuts app. Follow these simple steps:

  1. Open the Shortcuts app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Tap the “+” button at the top to create a new shortcut.
  3. Rename the shortcut at the top to “Twitter.”
  4. Tap “Add Action,” search for “Open App,” and select it to add the action.
  5. Next to “Open,” tap and select the new app: X.
  6. Tap the small dropdown arrow at the top, next to the name “Twitter,” and choose “Add to Home Screen.”
  7. Tap the icon and then select “Choose Image.”
  8. Select the original Twitter logo image and tap “Add.”

Indeed, with this simple process, we not only bring back an icon but also a piece of the history and evolution of social media. In the ever-changing digital world, where brands constantly reinvent themselves, users also have the power to preserve what is familiar to them.

With this shortcut, without any app modification, tricks, or anything that could interfere with the functioning of both our iPhone and X app, we can keep the Twitter icon and appearance. Furthermore, this mechanism will remain available even after updating the app, allowing us to put any icon we desire in the app.
