The highly anticipated iPhone 15 has had an impressive start in the market, according to a recent report by Wedbush. Apple doesn’t disclose official sales figures, but this analyst firm has noted that pre-orders for the new models are exceeding last year’s iPhone 14 by 10-12%. Such demand not only reflects the confidence we have in Apple when it comes to upgrading but also showcases the innovation that Apple has introduced with the new iPhone 15.

High demand, and production lines are doing everything they can to keep up

Beyond just the sales figures, what stands out is the type of model that is being chosen. According to Wedbush’s analysis (via 9to5mac), there is a significant preference for the iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max, with the Pro Max being particularly popular in key markets like the United States, China, India, and parts of Europe. This inclination towards high-end models is evidence of the level of innovation seen in these models and something that pushes the average selling price (ASP) upwards. The ASP is expected to be around $925, marking a significant increase of approximately $100 compared to the past 12-15 months.

The increased demand for the iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max is further evidenced by the extended shipping times, which have been pushed back to late October or early November. This appears to be not just a demand issue but also a supply one. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the improved telephoto camera of the iPhone 15 Pro Max has posed production challenges.

To address this challenge and meet the demand, Apple has modified the specifications of the tetraprism lens supplied by Largan Precision. This adaptation has allowed Largan to expand its production lines for the lens, hopefully enabling Apple to balance supply and demand in time for the holiday season.

Clearly, Apple has achieved a significant milestone with the launch of the iPhone 15. While we’re considering that these are not official figures, it’s evident that demand is high, and despite some production challenges, the company is doing everything it can to get our new phones to us as soon as possible.
