Finally, after 7 years of absence, Rihanna is back in style to perform at one of the most important shows in the world: the Super Bowl halftime show. As if that wasn’t enough, the singer may have been the star of the most watched pregnancy commercial in history.
There were no big pirouettes or impossible choreographies from the Barbados singer, but there was no need either. Rihanna only needed to use her voice. Alongside her, she was accompanied by an army of dancers and a floating stage where she did not stand still at any time. The first song we heard was Bitch Better Have My Money, a declaration of intent.
At 34 years old and dressed in a red jumpsuit, she walked around the stage as if she were at home. This year there were no guest artists, but it wasn’t necessary either: with her presence and her hits, it was more than enough. During the concert, we listened to a medley of hits such as Work, We Found Love, Only Girl, Rude Boy, Wild Thoughts, Diamonds or the well-known Umbrella. There was also room for other songs like All of The Lights (a collaboration she did with the controversial Kanye West in 2011) and Run This Town, a very appropriate song for the sporting occasion.
The apparent lack of nerves and her “disinterest” was in itself a statement of intent. The message was clear: this is me, enjoy me or go back where you came from. Rihanna has always been known for her nonchalant attitude towards criticism and her authenticity, which deeply marked her Super Bowl performance.
Rihanna, pregnant with her second child
Although there has been no sign of a new album, the singer has taken advantage of the halftime show to give another surprise: the announcement of her second pregnancy. During the performance, Rihanna made some gestures caressing her belly, but the official confirmation would come right after by her representative. This would be the second child that Rihanna and A$AP Rocky will bring to the world after the birth of the first one in May 2022 (no name known yet).
