Yesterday the Galaxy Unpacked event for January 2024 took place, an event where Samsung went all out for this key year in the world of technology: artificial intelligence as the center of everything. But it wasn’t all about AI.
Samsung announced yesterday that Instagram will allow uploading HDR images to its social network as long as they are taken with the new Samsung Galaxy S24 phones.
“All the photos and videos you take or see will be displayed with their full range of colors and contrasts, from the moment you capture the content until the moment you publish it,” said Samsung’s Vice President of Intelligent Imaging, Dr. Hamid Sheikh, on stage at the S24 presentation event.
“In fact, the Galaxy S24 series will be the first to have HDR enabled for photos on Instagram”. The app already supports HDR videos.
A measure that will convince thousands of influencers
HDR compatibility was one of the many photography features for social media that Samsung announced for its new phones, the Galaxy S24, the S24 Plus, and the S24 Ultra.
The smartphone manufacturer also announced that Instagram, as well as its rival Snapchat, could make use of Samsung’s native camera functions when taking photos directly from the social media apps.
These features include “Nightography” low-light photographs, “Super HDR” and video stabilization. Engadget points out that video stabilization will have to be activated in the native camera app before it is available through Instagram and Snapchat, but otherwise this means Instagram and Snapchat should offer a better quality experience for S24 device owners.
In Samsung they have understood (and probably paid for it) that convincing customers who are undecided between them and other brands, that social media is a differential way to position themselves as the best devices of 2024. We will see how many influencers switch from their iPhone 15 to the new Galaxy S24.
