Netflix has announced a new live-action reimagining of the classic animated series Scooby-Doo. Under the direction of Greg Berlanti, known for his work on successful adaptations of DC comics, such as Arrow and The Flash, the series will transform the iconic characters into child versions who navigate a summer camp. The production will also feature the talent of the Midnight Radio team, which includes producers from the recent adaptation of Cowboy Bebop.
A new Scooby-Doo for a new generation
Simply titled Scooby-Doo, the series features Shaggy and Daphne as friends at camp, while Velma is a local resident living nearby, and Fred is a new kid in town with a mysterious past. Together, they will join forces to uncover the story of a Great Dane puppy, which may be linked to an apparently supernatural murder. In the tradition of the original series, it is likely that, although the plot may seem supernatural, the protagonists will continue to unmask the villains who disguise themselves as creatures and ghosts to carry out their nefarious plans.
Greg Berlanti expressed his excitement for the new project, recalling that one of his first jobs in the industry was alongside Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera, creators of the original series. In his words, the Midnight Radio team has crafted a story that captures the spirit and genius of the creators of Scooby-Doo, and it was added that Netflix and Warner are collaborating to bring this new iteration of the story to the screen.
A release date for Scooby-Doo has not yet been announced, but fans of the series and the franchise can look forward to a fresh take on these beloved mystery stories.
