The DC Comics universe in cinema is about to change forever. After all the failures Warner has experienced in the DC Extended Universe initiated by Zack Snyder, the company has made a major shift in its plans by hiring James Gunn, who, along with Peter Safran, leads the new DC Studios that will shape a brand new universe of superheroes.

For this ambitious project that the director of Guardians of the Galaxy has in his hands, the idea is to start just as Snyder did in his time: with a Superman movie. Directed by James Gunn, Superman Legacy is scheduled to premiere in the summer of 2025, and from what we know, it will be a much brighter film in the style of Christopher Reeve’s classic Superman movies.

Now, we finally know the leads of the movie: David Corenswet will be Superman, replacing Henry Cavill in the role he portrayed in three films. And Rachel Brosnahan, the lead actress of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, will be journalist Lois Lane. Thus, confirming some suspicions that had been circulating for weeks. But where do these two actors actually come from?

Who is David Corenswet, the new Superman?

With a height of 6’4″ (1.93 meters), green eyes, a prominent jawline, and dark hair, David Corenswet seems to be the perfect Superman. While Henry Cavill also had that resemblance, Corenswet carries a sense of goodness in his gaze, making him a fitting choice for the universe that James Gunn is building.

At just 29 years old, the actor graduated from Juilliard School in 2016 and began securing some notable roles in television series. He appeared in House of Cards, Elementary, and Controversy, as well as in lesser-known films like Affairs of State and Project Pay Day.

In 2019, David Corenswet took his first major step into the world of television thanks to Ryan Murphy, the showrunner of series like American Horror Story, who immediately became enamored with him. This led to Corenswet becoming one of the main cast members of The Politician, and a year later, he starred in Hollywood, a miniseries that didn’t receive much acclaim but showcased the actor’s talent.

Corenswet’s most recent notable role was in Pearl, a prequel to X directed by Ti West, where he portrayed the projectionist. Although it was a brief role, he still had the opportunity to shine alongside Mia Goth. Undoubtedly, he is still relatively young in the industry, but he seems like a perfect choice for a Superman/Clark Kent who is beginning to discover his true identity.

Who is Rachel Brosnahan, Lois Lane in Superman Legacy?

The other great choice for the film is Rachel Brosnahan, who will portray Lois Lane. It appears that Lois will have significant importance in this movie, perhaps resembling the original Reeves films more than what we have seen in recent years regarding Superman.

Brosnahan, at 32 years old, is three years older than Corenswet and has a more extensive television career than her co-star. She has even won a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy. This award, of course, comes from the series that has made her a star: The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. In Amazon Prime Video’s hit show, the actress has played the lead role for five seasons.

However, her career features more intriguing roles. She also appeared in House of Cards, where she coincided with the new Clark Kent, and in other series such as Grey’s Anatomy, Orange Is the New Black, The Blacklist, and Crisis in Six Scenes. Additionally, she has hosted Saturday Night Live, something not many actors in their early 30s can claim.

In terms of film, she has been acting since 2009, making her debut in the movie The Unborn. Since then, she has appeared in productions like Beautiful Creatures, The Finest Hours, and I’m Your Woman. Clearly, she has not been lacking in work since entering the industry.

It appears that the chemistry between both actors is quite spectacular, something that James Gunn has made clear on his social media. The director has emphasized their warmth as individuals beyond their acting abilities, indicating that we are in for something much more tender than what we have seen in the DC universe so far.
