We’ve always had it, but for years this app has been relegated to some hidden folder that we never click.  I’m talking about the humble SMS app. Although we hardly ever use it, Google hasn’t forgotten about it and has actually just rolled out quite a hefty update.

Google has integrated the SMS app with Google Duo. Duo is Google’s video call service, and it is actually quite good. This integration will only happen if you have Duo installed on your mobile.

Google Duo also includes the option to make payments through Google Wallet. This is particularly useful as it means you can now make payments to your contacts.

The app has also added some cool features for people with dual SIM phones. It is now easier than ever to manage the SMS messages of both SIMs, which in the past was a bit chaotic.

The SMS app now takes up considerably less space. It is just 5.7MB, 30% less than what it was in the past.

Soon the messaging app will be updated automatically on all Android phones. If yours hasn’t been updated yet and you want to try out these new features you can download the APK from APK Mirror.

Do you still use your SMS app? Let us know in the comments below.
