Yes, 2023 is an incredible year for video game fans. Not only have highly anticipated triple-A games been released (and are yet to be released) as if there’s no tomorrow, but also the indie scene has shown us that it’s in its prime, with all kinds of high-quality games.

But whether you’re a fan of big-budget games or more intimate indies, this month you have a must-stop: the October Steam Next Fest. As we enjoyed in its February and June editions, this digital event allows us to play nearly 100 demos of upcoming video games.

There are many great ones, but at Softonic, we have made a selection of our favorites so that you have some to start with. Take advantage and try out all the demos you can, as the Steam Next Fest will end on October 16th at 7 PM (Spanish peninsular time).

Solium Infernum

A classic from 2009 that returns with a fascinating facelift. In Solium Infernum, you step into the shoes of one of the 8 archdemons vying for the throne of Hell. To achieve this, you’ll have to use all your cunning and tricks to outwit your rivals.

Solium Infernum is a turn-based simultaneous political strategy game for up to six players, akin to the style of Civilization. In this game, each player controls an archdemon. Every archdemon possesses unique powers and demonic resources, allowing you to specialize in the gameplay style you prefer through various power trees at your disposal.

RoboCop: Rogue City

RoboCop: Rogue City is a first-person shooter based on the famous 80s movie franchise. In this game, you’ll step into the shoes of RoboCop, a police officer revived as a cyborg who must uphold the law by any means necessary. You can explore large open areas of Old Detroit, completing objectives according to your own sense of justice.

In RoboCop: Rogue City, you will experience a completely new story set between RoboCop 2 and RoboCop 3, featuring the original actor’s voice, Peter Weller. Additionally, you will have access to over 20 different weapons, and you can upgrade your cybernetic abilities and make decisions that will impact the fate of the citizens.

Wild Country

If you’re a fan of animals and card games, this game is for you. Wild Country is an adorable city builder card game filled with talking animals. In this game, you play as the potential successor to Sun City‘s mayor, Bearclaw. Your goal is to build the best city in the county by using various cards.

In Wild Country, you’ll compete against rival animals to have the most developed and prosperous city by the end of the game. To build your city, you’ll need to use cards of various types; there are building cards, resource cards, worker cards, and event cards. It’s a very enjoyable card game that will appeal to both new players and seasoned veterans, where strategy is key.

American Arcadia

If you’re a bit older, you probably enjoyed The Truman Show back in the day, a film where the protagonist, Truman Burbank, is an adopted child raised to unknowingly star in a reality show, with everyone around him being actors.

Well, in American Arcadia, the premise is quite similar. The protagonist, Trevor Hills, is an ordinary man working as an office clerk. His life is so dull to the viewers of American Arcadia, the planet’s most popular show, that they end up sentencing him to death.

Luckily, he has the help of Angela Solano, a stage technician who wants to get him out of there. Together, they will have to escape the city and uncover the truth behind the show. American Arcadia is a 2.5D puzzle-platformer game with first-person sections where you will experience an exciting story full of twists, featuring retro-futuristic graphics and ambiance from the 1970s.
