If you’re fans of thrillers, you can’t overlook one of the most intriguing series ever produced in the genre: ‘The Couple Next Door.’ Starring Sam Heughan, the lead from Outlander, this show debuted on Movistar+, the Spanish streaming platform, on December 4th and has captivated its audience unlike few others have done before.

The series is originally British and is based on Shari Lapena’s eponymous book, which became a worldwide bestseller in 2016. Undoubtedly, it was evident that it would become a success once adapted into a TV format, but few expected it to become an international hit as it has ended up being.

Sex, infidelities, and lots of drama

“The Couple Next Door” compensates its classic thriller tension with a plot that mixes infidelity, nosy neighbors, partner swapping, sex, and passion. It’s a series that uniquely exploits the sex appeal of the protagonist and generates all sorts of sensations in the audience throughout its course.

The fiction begins with reverse narrative. It all starts with a shootout in a house in the middle of the woods and a pursuit that happens in medias res. This leaves everyone unclear about what happened with the main couples in this battle, and gradually, we rewind to piece together the puzzle that the creators have built around them.

One of these two couples consists of Evie (Eleanor Tomlinson) and her husband Pete (Alfred Enoch), who are an investigative journalist consumed by his work and an early childhood teacher. The other couple is formed by the Outlander protagonist, Danny, and Jessica De Gouw as Becka. He’s a traffic cop, and she’s a yoga instructor. So, everything is set to explode at any moment.
