The year 2023 has been marked as one of the best years for video games thanks to the release of great titles like Baldur’s Gate 3 or The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. However, it will also be remembered for its massive layoffs. Even the ninja turtles have not been spared from this.
Kotaku has been the one to break the news: Black Forest Games, the studio behind the development of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin, has laid off 50% of its employees. According to the known figures, the studio had a total of 110 employees during 2023. Black Forest Games was also responsible for the remakes of Destroy All Humans! 1 and 2.
A source close to the studio confirmed to Kotaku that the creative directors and the majority of the managers will be spared from the layoffs. On the other hand, some of the employees affected by the layoffs have taken to their social media to also share the bad news.
With all these layoffs, the future of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin remains somewhat uncertain. For now, we know that the game will offer a darker vision than what we are used to seeing with the beloved Ninja Turtles. According to Paramount, we still have a few years to wait to be able to play this adventure.
